3 Years, 3 VCs No Student Has Graduated From 9-Year-Old University ...Jang To Blame

9-year-old Plateau State University (PLASU) has not graduated any student since it was established. Students say Governor Jang is to blame.

Governor Jonah Jang of Plateau state has been blamed for problems bedevilling the Plateau State University (PLASU), Bokkos, which has not graduated any student in its 9 years of existence.
Students of the institution say Jang's constant interference in the affairs has seen three Vice Chancellors at the helms of affairs of the institution within the space of three years.
Governor Jang had on Friday, 31st of October, announced the sack of the immediate past VC, Doknan Sheni, citing ‘inappropriate conduct’.
Led by the Students’ Union Government (SUG) President, Matthew Dafoum, the students held a protest on Monday, disrupting scheduled examinations.
In a Tuesday press conference, final year students of the institution said they boycotted examinations because they are unlikely to graduate with most of their courses yet to be approved by the National Universities Commission (NUC).
"We do not know our fate. We may not graduate that was why we refused writing our final examinations," leader of the group, Misheal Nunkop, was quoted as saying.

Nunkop revealed that Jang had on assumption of office shut down the then 2-year-old PLASU citing infrastructure and staffing deficiencies, only to reopen it about 2 years later without effecting any change.
Jang was also blamed for changing the VC three times in as many years, disrupting accreditation processes.
"It is on record that within three years the University has had three Vice Chancellors as opposed to the possible fifteen years of the cumulative tenure of the three Vice Chancellors..
"This raises serious questions: how can three different Vice Chancellors be the problem of a single university under one administration."
The students vowed to reject new VC Stephen Mallo.
Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), PLASU chapter, Gilbert Yalmi, condemned Sheni's suspension which he said contributes to the institution's failure to get accreditation.
"This is not unconnected to the breakages in the chain of the university administration by the Jang-led administration," Yalmi said.
PLASU was established by the Joshua Chibi Dariye administration in 2005.
