Reggae Singer To Drop Comeback Album Next Year--Majek Fashek

The reggae maestro still has some juice in his tank, and has promised to release a body of work next year.

Veteran Artistes Majek Fashek will be dropping a new album next year.
Majek Fashek had ruled the music industry in the early 90’s had gradually been relegated from the fore, with his struggle to deal with marijuana addiction also contributing to the dearth of his music.
But the reggae maestro still has some juice in his tank, and has promised to release a body of work next year.
He told Steadybase.com, “I’m bringing a new album out. I will be releasing two singles before December, but I’m bringing a full album out next year.”
With the infusion of various sounds dominating the industry, Majek Fashek does not plan to join the train. He revealed that he will not alter his sound, but instead, improve on the general feel of his music.
“The Nigerian music industry is good. I like it. The young boys are doing very well. Their music is good for dance, but it doesn’t have enough message. But it’s good for dance.
“I don’t change my sound, I don’t copy-cat. I keep the same sound, but I improve my music.” Majek declared.
Majek still believes that Reggae music with its inherent conscious messages will play a huge role in societal change. Including influencing the government.

“Reggae Music is serious music. It’s good for the matured mind, it’s good for the government, because the government run the country. A government official can’t be watching this (a pop music video), because he can’t think well. A woman carry yansh (butt) dey show.
“We need music that can make people think, that’s reggae music.”
How about weed? We ask. And Majek was dismissive. “It’s not all reggae musicians that smoke Marijuana.”
“Marijuana is just personal business. For example, Ras Kimono don’t smoke, many musicians don’t smoke. But politicians they smoke, and it’s not compulsory that you have to smoke ‘Igbo’ or whatever to play reggae music.” He dismissed.
Majek Fashek will be performing at the ‘Africa Meets Reggae And World Music International Festival’ on November 29, at the National Stadium, Lagos. He will be joined by other veteran acts such as Victor Essiet, Ortis Williki and Right
